Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

This service is operated by SkillLift Labs (1001577116 ONTARIO INC.), a company incorporated in Ontario, Canada. In this policy, "we" and "our" refer to SkillLift Labs and you can reach us at hello@skilllift.io.

2. What we collect

Depending on how you use SkillLift, we collect:

• Account information — your email address, and either a password hash (never your plain password) or a linked Google account identifier, depending on how you sign in. You may also sign in with a one-time magic link sent to your email.
• Learning data — your course enrolments, lesson progress, belts and milestones earned, the Verilog/RTL code you write and run, simulation results, and exercise submissions. We store these so the platform can run your code, check your work, save your progress, and build any work-sample you choose to create. We also record account creation, your first successful in-lesson simulation, Module 1 completion, and Module 2 start for product measurement. These account-linked records contain only the milestone and lesson or module context, never your code, artifacts, or written explanations. They are essential account and learning records, recorded even when you decline visitor analytics or enable Do Not Track.
• Purchase information — if you buy a paid course, we record the purchase, the amount, and a payment reference. Card payments are processed by Stripe; we do not receive or store your full card number.
• Waitlist information — if you join a waitlist, the email address you submit, so we can notify you when the relevant offering opens.
• Beta research feedback — if you are invited into a founding-beta round and accept, the answers you give in the short module check-ins: a confidence rating, which parts caused you difficulty, any comments you choose to write, and your separate answers about a short interview or a later request about publishing a quote. These answers are linked to your account so we can follow up on what you report, and only authorised SkillLift staff can read them. Being asked about an interview or a quote is not permission to publish anything — we ask separately, about the specific quote and use.
• Technical metadata — the IP address, browser user-agent, and referring URL automatically included with your requests. We use these to operate the service and prevent abuse (including of the simulator and waitlist).
• Analytics (only if you allow it) — an anonymous visitor identifier, session identifier, pages viewed, referring site, campaign parameters, device category, browser language, and coarse country, region, and city supplied by our hosting provider. This also includes anonymous playground simulation success and signup starts. Campaign attribution — how you reached us — is recorded, and attached to account creation, only when you allow analytics. If you decline, none of it is collected or sent at all.

We do not store raw IP addresses in visitor analytics. Visitor analytics are disabled unless you choose "Allow analytics", and browser Do Not Track settings are respected.

3. Why we collect it

We use account and learning data to provide the courses, run the simulator, save your progress, and issue the belts and work-samples you earn. We use the account and learning milestones described above to measure course activation and completion and find where learners need better support. We count all learners in these measures, independently of visitor analytics preferences, and do not attach visitor identifiers, browsing sessions, referrers, or campaign parameters to learning milestones. We use purchase data to process payments, provide access, send receipts, and handle refunds. We use your email to send essential account and transactional messages (such as sign-in links, receipts, and course-related notices) and, if you opt in, occasional product updates. If enabled, analytics help us understand aggregate traffic and improve the product. We use beta research feedback only to decide what to fix and improve in the course, and to contact you about what you reported; we never place your written feedback into analytics. We do not sell or rent your personal information.

4. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers we rely on to operate SkillLift, and only as needed to provide the service:

• Stripe — payment processing.
• Resend — sending transactional and account email.
• Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, to authenticate you.
• Our hosting and database providers — to run the site and store your data securely.

We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if required by law. Some providers may process data outside Canada; we rely on them to protect it under their own commitments.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your account and learning data while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data except records we are required to retain (for example, transaction and tax records tied to a purchase). Waitlist emails are kept until the relevant offering launches or you ask us to delete them. Beta research feedback is kept while we are still acting on it and is deleted with your account. Analytics are retained only as long as reasonably needed to monitor traffic, performance, and security.

6. Your rights

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial law, you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To exercise these rights, email hello@skilllift.io.

7. Analytics preference

Your current analytics preference is not selected. You can change it at any time.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date at the top of this page.
